“I think I can…I think I can…I think I can…”

Most of us know the story of the Little Engine that Could…(and if you don’t you should google it – it’s a powerful little story) Although he doubted himself, ultimately he believed that he could do hard things…and therefore he did! He accomplished what he set out to do!

Did you know that the “I think I can’s” work for weight loss too?

We know all the different kids’ stories that have such important lessons and we do our best to instill those important values into those we love. We tell other people that they can do anything they set their minds to! We tell our kids that the sky is the limit – they can be anything they want to be!

And yet, many of us struggle to believe in ourselves…especially when it comes to losing weight. But Sister, we’ve got to practice what we preach! If we tell everyone else that they can do it, then we need to believe that we can do it too!

Trust me, if you’re anything like me, I get it! For many years of my life, I thought I would always be the “fat girl” in the room. I believed that I couldn’t change…that I would always be heavy.

I blamed it on my body shape…I blamed it on my circumstances…I blamed it on my genetics…especially after gaining 85 pounds with my first pregnancy. That is until I figured out how to find freedom with food! (you can read more about my weight loss here!)

Now, let’s be clear – I’m not talking about being a size zero… I’m not talking about being a model…

I’m talking about getting healthy – about treating your body like a temple, not a trash can. I’m talking about living at a healthy weight for the unique and beautiful body that God gave YOU!

Why We Don’t Believe

So let’s break it down for a minute and talk about WHY we don’t believe that we can do it! We all have doubts and insecurities…every one of us. But probably the thing that affects us the most are those past “failures.” We all have them! And if you’re here reading this, chances are you have a few failed attempts at dieting. You’ve started a diet…maybe lost some weight…but ultimately you gained it all back (plus some…) because that diet just straight up wasn’t sustainable for your lifestyle.

Those “failures” really hurt and they make us self-conscious. Especially when we perceive them as such devastating failures (another blog post to come on why failure is actually a good thing later…they really truly are just learning experiences). Those failures create a level of subconscious doubt that causes us to believe that we CANNOT do it. You might not even recognize that you DO NOT believe in yourself, but ask yourself this:

Do you actually believe that you can lose the weight and keep it off? Chances are, if you’re honest, you don’t believe that it is possible for you.

The Subconscious Mind

Now, if you are not too familiar with the subconscious mind, stick with me here for a minute. Our subconscious mind is kind of like our “auto-pilot.” I like the example of getting in your car and driving to the grocery store. All of a sudden you park your car and you don’t even remember the drive there – you had tuned into auto-pilot mode. Really, what happened is that your subconscious mind took over.

It’s been said (and research shows) that up to 95% of what we do is controlled by our subconscious mind… It’s done on auto-pilot mode. YIKES!!!

So a huge portion of what we do is simply our subconscious mind taking over….and our subconscious mind is like a data bank – it stores and retrieves the data from our past experiences and programming. So every time you fail at another diet, your subconscious mind collects that “data” – and that data starts to tell you that you have failed at every attempt to lose weight…so the next time will likely be the same…another failed attempt.

What this causes is the hamster wheel effect – the yo-yo dieting. Start a new diet on Monday – quit by Tuesday (ok, maybe you made it to Friday or even a little longer)…start the cycle over again the following Monday.

The big question is…How do you get off the dieting hamster wheel and actually begin to BELIEVE that it is possible for you to lose weight and keep it off (because it absolutely is!)?

The "I Think I Can's" Of Weight Loss 2

Well, that’s why Ruth (my mom) and I developed the Food Freedom Workshop… because it’s all about reprogramming your brain.. It’s all about uncrossing the wires in our brains that are so mixed up regarding our relationship with food.

It’s about doing things differently – it’s about changing our relationship with food instead of starting another fad diet.

The Food Freedom Workshop is our FREE gift to you because we believe that every woman should have the tools to develop a healthy relationship with food. Our goal and mission is to help you learn to love who God created you to be…and that means addressing the dislike that so many of us have towards ourselves because of our mixed-up relationship with food (thanks to all those failed attempts at fad diets).

Here’s what I truly want you to know – it IS POSSIBLE for you to lose weight and live at a healthy weight…and it is possible for you to find freedom with food. And it starts by addressing what we tell ourselves…it starts by addressing the data in our subconscious mind so that we can start believing that it is possible! You can’t be telling yourself that you are a failure and will never lose the weight and then expect to succeed at your next diet…that just doesn’t make sense.

So join us for the Food Freedom Workshop and begin to uncross those wires so that you can be like the Little Engine That Could…I think I can…I think I can…I think I can.

See you there!
