Have you ever looked at yourself in the mirror and said “I’m such a FAILURE!” If you’re reading this I can guarantee that you are not a failure, because you haven’t given up! The only person who really fails is the person who completely gives up! So if you aren’t ready to give up yet, here’s how to stop failing at weight loss!

Never Give Up

We have all heard about or read about athletes who continue to train throughout their whole careers. Athletes never quit! They get up regardless of failed attempts and they try again. They learn from their mistakes so they are not really failures. Athletes are always in training to WIN!

I’m sure you have heard of Michael Jordan – arguably the best basketball player of all time! If you have ever read anything about his life, you will know that his greatest strength was his ability to fight through adversity. He never gave up. You can easily find and read about his greatest comebacks, but one of them was when he got food poisoning the night before one of the NBA finals. Jordan could have easily let this unfortunate circumstance bring him down; he could have thrown in the towel! But despite feeling so weak, dehydrated and certainly not his best, he still persevered and helped bring his team another victory.

He probably felt like he failed his teammates, but he still helped to win the game despite his lack of strength. We know that Michael Jordan probably felt like a failure many times because so many of his favorite quotes are about failure. His ability to see the other perspective inspires us to never quit! Here are just a few of his favorite quotes:

Failure makes me work even harder. 

I’ve never been afraid to fail.

The key to success is failure.

If you quit once it becomes a habit. Never quit!

Never say never, because limits, like fears, are often just an illusion.

So in your weight loss journey, I would like to tell you what Jordan says, “never quit.” If you fall down, learn from falling and get up and start again. The next decision matters. Forgive yourself and move on. You’re only a failure if you quit! Stop saying you’re a failure and start to tell yourself that the “key to success is failure” so you’re a success! 

How Do You Stop Failing At Weight Loss?

You press on towards the prize! That’s right, the way you stop failing at weight loss is to keep going.

Let’s look at an example from the Bible. I’m sure we can all agree that Noah worked tirelessly through many difficult circumstances in order to say the Ark was ready for embarking. Experts say that it took approximately 55 to 75 years to actually build the Ark, and then there would have been more time required to gather all the food and the necessary supplies needed for such a journey. Noah probably felt like quitting so many times throughout these years of construction. People scoffed and laughed at him; they probably thought he was crazy, and many would have gossiped about how this old man had lost his marbles.

Did he feel like a failure? Did he doubt what God was asking him to do?

Sometimes we think we are the only ones who feel like a failure, but when we stop to consider the reality of this one thought, we realize that this is quite an irrational thought. We are not alone! We are not the only people on the planet who have felt like quitting or who have felt like a failure. There have been many people who have been on weight loss journeys before you, and there will be many more after you, but I can assure you that you are not alone in feeling like a failure. I can assure you that with God in the journey, all things are possible, and yes, even weight loss. The Bible has so many promises that we can claim, but unless we claim them, we doubt them. 

So let’s claim this promise today. Philippians 4:13 (NIV) says:

I can do all this through him who gives me strength.

Let’s claim this verse together and say it like this:

I can lose weight through Christ who gives me strength.

As believers we say we believe the word of God, but do we really? We become doubters of the word. The enemy tempts us and says, Did God really say you can do ALL things?

We Really Can Do All These Things…

These lies from the devil need to be squished and squashed and thrown out with the trash. Yes, we can really do all things, which includes winning at our weight loss. Despite hardships, despite trials, despite temptations, God is our strength. He is strong when we are weak and together, with God in our weight loss journey daily, we can stop failing at weight loss and begin to reap the harvest of seeing the pounds disappear. 

Joshua 1:9 (NIV) says:

Have I not commanded you? Be strong and courageous. Do not be afraid; do not be discouraged, for the Lord your God will be with you wherever you go.”

Let’s claim the promise that God is with us wherever we go, whether it’s to a restaurant to eat, whether it’s to the grocery store to buy groceries, or whether it’s cooking in our kitchens. God is with us helping us remain strong in our weight loss journeys. 

One more verse in Deuteronomy 31:8 (NIV) says:

The Lord himself goes before you and will be with you; he will never leave you nor forsake you. Do not be afraid; do not be discouraged.

You Are An Overcomer!

Jesus wants us to be encouraged. It’s such an encouragement to me knowing that He will never ever leave me. I hope that this encourages you today as well. He says, “do not be discouraged!” He is constantly with us and is there to comfort us, guide us and to help us with all our decisions.

How do we stop failing at weight loss? We claim the promises and resist the devil, and then we will continue to run the race to win. We are not quitters, but we are more than conquerors.
