Are you drinking enough water? How do you know how much water to drink?

It is vitally important for your body that you start drinking enough water, and it’s important that you start drinking enough water today. You don’t need to gulp down the water, but it is important to continually sip some water throughout the day. If you don’t drink enough water, this can lead to dehydration.

What Is Dehydration?

The MayoClinic says that “dehydration occurs when you use or lose more fluid than you take in, and your body doesn’t have enough water and other fluids to carry out its normal functions. If you don’t replace lost fluids, you will get dehydrated.

But what is really important is what dehydration leads to…

Dis Ease

That’s right. Dis-ease… not to be mistaken with “disease,” dehydration leads to total dis ease in your body.

First, dehydration can cause an acid-alkaline imbalance in your body. This is always a balance in your body between being acidic or alkaline, so this is really important to have this balance. Having enough water in your body helps create and keep that balance between being acidic and alkaline. Not only that, but having enough water in your body totally can scratch out the Dis from Dis Ease.

Having enough water helps with so many things:

  • Arthritis
  • Constipation
  • Cholesterol levels
  • Cystitis
  • Digestive disorders
  • Eczema
  • Excess weight
  • Fatigue
  • Gastritis
  • High and low blood pressure
  • Pre-mature aging
  • Stomach ulcers and urinary infections

So Why Is It Important To Drink Enough Water?

It is important to drink enough water because we don’t want inflammation in our bodies. We don’t want all of the things listed above. And water can counteract all of these problems.

Did you know that our bodies are made up of 50-70% water? For instance, our brains are made up of about 75% water. So, if you are dehydrated, do you really expect your brain to function at full capacity? No, I don’t think so!

If we continue to be dehydrated and not drink enough water, what else can happen to our brains? Think back to the Dis Ease…. Dis Ease only leads to one thing… DISEASE. Maybe dementia or Alzheimers… our neural pathways aren’t functioning correctly.

Now, I’m not trying to say that you are going to get dementia or Alzheimers right away. But listen to what I am saying… When you and I don’t take care of our bodies, then we can expect some Dis Ease to come into play, which can, in turn, lead to disease.

How Much Water Should I Drink Everyday?

This is actually a really simple solution… the rule of thumb is to drink eight 8oz glasses of water each and every day. Remember, this is the MINIMUM amount of water to drink every day, not the maximum. It’s not a bad thing if you have more water than that.

Here’s another way to look at it – you should be drinking half of your body weight in ounces every day. Let me explain – This is an easy calculator to make:

If you weigh 200lbs, then you cut that in half by dividing it by 2. That is the amount of ounces of water you should be drinking daily. So, if you weigh 200lbs:

200lbs / 2 = 100oz Water Every Single Day!

Here is a table for you:

Weight# Oz Water Per Day
100 lbs50 oz
125 lbs62.5 oz
150 lbs75 oz
175 lbs87.5 oz
200 lbs100 oz
225 lbs112.5 oz
250 lbs125 oz
275 lbs137.5 oz
300 lbs150 oz

Are You Drinking Enough Water?

You’re seriously doing that? Are you drinking enough water for how much you weigh?

Your body needs and CRAVES water. Oftentimes when we think we are hungry, we aren’t actually hungry. No! Instead, we are actually thirsty. Our body is telling us that it is craving some water. So, an easy takeaway here is that when you are in-between meal times and you start feeling hungry or snacky, HAVE A GLASS OF WATER!

Check out the ABCs Of Weight Loss here!

It is refreshing, it helps keep your body healthy, and last but not least, it will fill you up! Oftentimes during the middle of the day, I make sure to have a big glass of water to curb my hunger while I’m waiting for dinner. It works!

Living Water

As christians, we all know about Living Water. When we drink the living water, we never thirst again. But this is also true here on earth – when we drink enough physical, earthly water in our earthly bodies, then our thirst is quenched here on earth.

Our Food Freedom workshop covers a variety of topics to help you live a healthy Christian lifestyle – Kayce and I are so excited about it. So, if you haven’t registered yet, you can do so here:

  1. I drink approximately 110 to 120 Oz of lemon water a day plus 1-2 cups of coffee in the morning if I’m up at 4:30 am. Sometimes I have a cup of tea in the afternoon too. I get plenty of fluids but before I retired there were days all I had was a diet coke and a couple of dips of water for the day. Not good! I feel so much better now. I feel like my body Is finally getting the nutritious food and fluids that it craved for many years. So happy you all are in my life!

  2. I know I dont get enough water but I started at 0 ounces a day , Im getting better but still not near enough got 40 oz today ., taking it one day at a time lol God Bless

  3. I drink quite a bit of water everyday bc I love water and I keep a dry mouth. I know I don’t drink half my body weight in water, but I’m willing to try. I have found that I drink more water if I keep bottled water on hand.

  4. No Ruth, I’m not drinking enough water. I’m góing to do better. I did not know how important water was to our body Thank you so much for sharing this. You are such a special person. God bless you. Love. Patricia McCullough

  5. I do not drink any where near enough water. I have a large water bottle I have started fill it each morning and leave it on the kitchen counter and try to take a sip every time I pass. Some days I finish it, other days I don’t get close. I will make more of an effort starting today after reading this.

  6. I drink 72 oz. a day , by reading this I see I need 38more oz of water a day. Some of my liquid is from coffee and juice, does this count?

  7. Since being on weigh down life style since January, I am drinking enough water ! I must say it is easier to do in this hot weather! But no, I never drank enough before going on this lifestyle. Thank you Ruth!

  8. I drink about a gallon a day. According to your chart, I should be drinking between 85 and 100 oz. I’m pretty happy with myself now! I’ve been trying to find a chart for a while. Thanks, Ruth!

  9. I take a prescription diuretic for kidney stone prevention. I’ve had them twice and don’t ever want them again. So far, so good after several years on this regimen. Recently I was taken off them due to ongoing lightheadedness. The doc thought this may be the culprit. However, it wasn’t. After a couple of months my doc put me back on them and said it was because my BP was a bit high (140ish/80ish). So, officially I’m now taking the diuretic for that reason. Ugh. Anyway. I’m a huge sweater in the summer and I dehydrate on very hot days even when I drink alot of water. When this happens to me I get horrible groin/inner thigh type Charlie horses that are excruciating and disabling. I’ve ended up in the ER 3 times for this. Once my electrolytes were so tanked I ended up getting an IV to replenish. Here’s the thing, I’m also on a potassium prescription because of the diuretic. When I drink ‘too much’ water, I flush out all of my potassium and electrolytes. I’m in a catch 22!!! I’d love to drink more than the 8 cups per day and I do someday when very hot, but I have to be so careful to find balance. I always drink a cup of hot lemon water upon waking, my 8 glasses per day, my 3 green tea, and sometimes a zero sugar Gatorade before bed so I don’t get those awful Charlie horses. I’m curious if any other members have this problem….

  10. I have never drank my required amount of water until this workshop….. I fill my glass Suntea Jar -14 cups (has a spout to pour with) every morning. I have drank it plain and now on day 7 of my first ten days I added a cut up lime.

This has made it much easier along with the water check off sheet
